One of learning experiences of starting up a business is dealing with the complications of the US Tax Code. Going through that, in conjunction with the complexities of personal taxes, prompted me to submit this letter to the Wall Street Journal. It was published on Friday November 2nd.
Sir,
In reading "The Mother Of All Tax Hikes" (editorial page October 29th) by Dick Armey I was struck by how almost every discussion
around the US Tax Code eventually reverts back to tax simplification. I'd suggest as a first step that we require every single member of Congress to complete their own 1040 every year without the aid of a tax professional or safety net. I'd guarantee the code would be radically simpler the next time April 15th comes around. Perhaps we should start with getting that commitment from each and every 2008 Presidential candidate ?
Respectfully,
